WEST SIDE BUSINESS OPENS DOORS FOR LAUNDRY, LIBRARIES, AND LEARNING

Beautiful Laundrette, at 625 Stryker Avenue in Saint Paul, will be holding a grand opening on Saturday, July 17th from 3 pm to sundown, celebrating not only its new ownership and remodeling, but numerous community partnerships to strengthen families on the West Side.   

The party will include games, prizes, BBQ by Black Market Saint Paul, DJ Finnoh, and live music from the Afro-Caribbean band Malamanya in its first post-COVID appearance. 

 “We are trying to create something new – a business that provides a safe, clean, and welcoming space for our neighbors to do their laundry, but also provides opportunities for them to meet other needs at the same time,” says owner Laurel Gamm. “We are partnering with Libraries Without Borders and other community partners to bring programs to Beautiful Laundrette, such as K-5 Reading tutoring with Reading Partners, Housing Help Pop-Ups every Wednesday from 3-7 pm with Neighborhood House, and visits by the Saint Paul Public Libraries Bookmobile and Friends every other Monday from 4-5 pm.”

She adds, “I hope the opening will bring together our customers and neighbors for some great local food and fantastic music of Malamanya.”

“Beautiful Laundrette is a wonderful new addition to the neighborhood,” says one of the community partners.  “We’re thrilled to be joining in their grand opening.”

Gamm has future plans for the laundromat as well. In September, she plans to launch a "Bubbles 'n Troubles" monthly legal clinic, as well as providing Tech Office Hours weekly for those without computer access.

Malamanya is a Minnesota based band comprised of musicians who share a mutual respect and enthusiasm for traditional rhythms and melodies from the Caribbean and Latin America. Their onstage energy and compositions reflect the communal, complex, and celebratory spirit prevalent in these musical genres.
