BL Employment Opportunity!
Now Hiring a Community Navigator!
BL is working in collaboration with Libraries Without Borders on a program called Wash And Learn Initiative (WALI). WALI brings resources directly to customers, right at the laundromat. Programs have included tutoring for kids, virtual storytime, resource fairs, bookmobile visits, and weekly "housing help" pop-up clinics.
We are looking for a Community Navigator (CN) to help direct families or individuals who have needs and aren’t sure where to get help. This person will serve as a “connector”, listening to people, and connecting them with appropriate resources. The CN will be introduced to St. Paul community organizations and the services they provide. CN will have set hours at the Beautiful Laundrette for visibility and consistency. Hours will be negotiated in advance to accommodate both the CN and the needs of the community. (This will account for 50% of the CN’s time)
In addition, Beautiful Laundrette is developing a legal clinic called “Bubbles and Troubles” in collaboration with local legal aid agencies and programs.
Job duties for Community Navigator:
When community members arrive at the laundromat asking for legal help, collect information in a narrative form on legal issue. Ask clarifying questions to determine parties involved in issue, any open court cases, deadlines, etc.
Collect copies of any documents needed that client has.
Report intakes to designated SMRLS staff member and call clients back with solutions
Schedule appointments for legal clinic (Lawyers present in person for monthly clinic)
Remind community members of appointments at clinic
The Legal Clinic Navigator will be trained and supported by SMRLS staff. (This will accounts for 50% of CN’s time)
Requirements:
High School Diploma/GED
Previous experience with nonprofits, community organizing, education, healthcare or the legal field
